01

When do you need an alcohol licence?

Businesses serving drinks containing at least 2.8% alcohol for consumption on the premises generally need an alcohol licence. This includes cafés, bars, nightclubs and other venues. Selling sealed bottles for consumption elsewhere is a different situation; a one-off event may require an event permit.

02

Where do you apply, and who decides?

Send the application to the relevant police district. The municipal council or licensing board makes the decision following the police recommendation. Licences are normally issued for eight years, but may be limited to four or two. Processing time depends on the authority and case.

03

Which forms and documents do you need?

Use the official form for individuals or for companies and associations. Attachments depend on the legal form, finances and operation. Check the current official form.

Individuals: identification, tax information and relevant funding and premises details.
Companies and associations: CVR extract, articles, ownership details and relevant accounts. A new company may need an opening balance signed by an auditor.
Collect budgets and premises or funding agreements required for your case.
For a company, approval of the person responsible for daily operation may be part of the application.
04
